A Commitment to 13.1

Allo Hello! It’s been a long time since I’ve typed up a little something something in this digital space of mine but I feel that what I’m about to share is worthy of a journal entry:

I’ve assisted and trained people for 3Ks, 5Ks, 10Ks, and plenty more miles involving the alphabet but I’ve never conquered a half marathon in my lifetime.

After conquering the Ukrop’s Monument Avenue 10K back on 4/20 (Blaze It!), I was surprised at how much stamina I still had after sprinting past the finish line as spectators cheered. Averaging around 11:10/mile filled with water, electrolytes, a shot of Miller Lite, and a few Cherry Vodka drops…there was a hunger for more. Or the post-protein bar, banana, and Powerade really hit the spot.

That 10K was the longest mileage that I’ve ever run in my existence, and I didn’t feel like death. Granted, I took it seriously with my training runs and distances months before the starting grid. However, I went expecting to crawl off Monument Avenue after finishing yet I was still there cheering my clients on and greeting them at the finish line in my sweaty attire with a smile.

Months passed and my lifestyle resumed with this idea in my head. Well if that’s what 6 miles and change felt like…I think I can handle more. It doesn’t help having an absolute boss (Allo Aubrey) who is a legit cardiovascular queen conquering mileage & runs across the globe.

So when I mentioned to her the thought about the 13.1 she responded in kind: Welcome to Crazy Kids Club! Aub also mentioned you should game plan soon since November is approaching.

I’ve crafted a 12-week program after chit chats, Google searches, and a bit of reading that I’ll start on August 19th (Next Monday). And I’m using this space to showcase every week all the way to Race Day.

Sharing my data, modifications, nutrition, thoughts, and trials over the 7 Days with reflection and game planning for the next week. Using this not only to hold myself accountable but also as a possible blueprint for anyone interested in giving the half marathon a shot.

My body is already warming up with some runs over the last few weeks in the mix with my soccer & lifting addictions so looking forward to getting started.
